We sent in an Asha for XPS analysis (X-Ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy....click here for info XPS explained ) by an independent materials lab (Anderson Materials), and here is the summary of the results (I added the bold for emphasis):
=======================================
"The principal element found at the surface is carbon. As would be expected, considerable surface oxygen was also measured.
An atomic concentration of zirconium of 3.1 atomic % was found in the surface of the coating [note: they indicated that during the coating/infusion process, some of the zirconium is being knocked into the mix].
At concentrations below 1 atomic % N, Y, Si, F, Cl, and Mg were detected in the coating."
==================================
The % composition summary for the surface of the Asha is thus:
Carbon = 77.07%
Oxygen (atmospheric) = 17.09%
Zirconium = 3.14%
6 other elements all at less than 1% were also detected.
I'll prep up a page on the main website with more details, but the above are the key facts discovered via XPS...and it is one more test conclusively showing we really do have an amorphous diamond coating/infusion process for making the Asha.
Full disclosure on the testing = "The surface of the coated Asha diamond simulant after ultrasonic cleaning was examined with XPS using a monochromatic aluminum X-ray source. The quantitative elemental concentration results were obtained from elemental survey spectra covering the binding energy range from 0 to 1100 eV with a step size of 0.5 eV and long 4 hour data acquisition time for improved accuracy".
Best regards,
