mydiamondzone on eBay

mydiamondzone, an eBay seller: Not stocking an item listed in their eBay store; bait-and-switch; poor customer focus, and sheer audacity.

I had watched this semimount ring for over 30 days. It expired once and was promptly relisted. I took the buy-it-now today and paid immediately. Later today, I received a message from mydiamondzone, saying that they had somehow run out of that setting and somehow not noticed, and it would be 4-5 weeks wait for it to be restocked. I chose that ring specifically because it had larger point diamonds, not that teeny micro crVp that is more prongs than diamonds. I offered to wait for the exact style that I ordered, if they would size it free. (Remember, this is their mixup not mine!) No, they expected me to wait 4-5 weeks while they already have my money (over $500), plus pay them an additional $8 to resize and an additional $18 to re-plate it. NO FREAKING WAY!

Meanwhile, mydiamondzone has newly listed an almost identical style except it's that teeny crVp and is also less total diamond weight, but the same price as the one that I ordered.

4-5 weeks? I'd say no to that too! Isn't 30 days all buyers have to dispute? Very strange they would pick a deadline right after the dispute date....

Plus paying to resize and replate is new to me, usually the replate is in the cost of the sizing.

Good point, CaneyQueen. I'll open a dispute right now, to make sure that I get my money back.

edit: Can't open a dispute for item-not-received for 7 days b/c PayPal allows seller 3-7 days to ship. In the meantime, *if* seller offers to cancel transaction, eBay says to DISAGREE b/c I have already sent the payment. eBay says definitely do not wait the 4-5 weeks. I am supposed to 1) ask seller for refund (already done), and if that doesn't happen then 2)open the dispute and PayPal will refund me. But my money is tied up in the meantime because the payment has cleared.

eBay says they can't do anything until 7 days are up, even though the seller admits they can't ship this item. But they noted the auction number and will investigate or contact the seller (and/or snoop in the messages sent through eBay, from the sound of it.)

Thanks. Maybe they will just cooperate and send me a refund. I don't expect that setting to be available again. I think they wanted me to agree to the substitute with less ct wt. mydiamondzone doesn't have an unmanageable number of auctions and I think they should know what's in stock and what isn't.

I had the same problem with Oxford Diamond / Omega Diamond, back when they started dropping their higher end settings. I paid, and within hours they'd refunded the payment. The style that I bouht never did come back.

They issued a refund which PayPal says is completed. But, it's in a "temporary hold" by PayPal now for 3-5 days. So, I will get it back someday. PayPal is so stingy, lol. The took that money from my bank yesterday. :-D

I'm sorry you had that experience. I have had nothing but good experiences with them, and they have the best custom prices I have found all over the USA, the best communication, and they are members of BBB. Their specialty is antique repros made by CAD. I am pretty sure they will fix you up but please let us know if they do not.

That is how paypal makes money.
They hold the money for a few days to "clear" before they send the payments out.

Refunds take especially long. It isn't just you. It is how they do it.

Marley I don't know because I give and issue refunds all the time and it's almost instant. Is this because a dispute was filed? That might be what has create the delay.

But FYI I stopped selling my gold on ebay due to the hold paypal decided to start putting hold on funds in case the buyer wanted to claim they didn't receive the package. Too risky for the buyer to claim they didn't get what they ordered.

refunds are instant if the funds are readily available in the paypal acct...if u have to wait its bc the funds arent already in their paypal acct and its being withdrawn from a cc or bank acct and paypal wants to make sure it clears before they give you your money back ...this is the case even if a dispute is opened...

paypal puts holds on all payments that are relatively expensive or suspicious...lots of times theyll do nothing as long as you leave it sitting in your account, but if you try to transfer it into your account right away, theyll freeze it...

everything protects the buyer, not the seller...theres so many ways to get scammed on ebay its not even funny...which is why sellers are packing up and leaving in droves...

they didnt inform anyone when they changed over to instant transfers so a ton of sellers sold high priced items and shipped them out only to discover that the funds were declined from their bank acct...they fixed this by adding the 'okay to ship' once the funds are cleared but some ppl still dont understand this...buyers think the transfer is instant and get upset that the seller is waiting 5 days to mail their item...

if you have a credit card you can steal from anyone...i sold a $3000 rolex watch..shipped it overnight had signed confirmation and everything...buyer wanted a refund,,i said ok ship it back...he wanted a refund first and then he would ship it back!? told him thats not how it works, paypal also told me not to do this,..he filed a dispute with his cc company and kept the watch and my money even tho i had signed delivery confirmation

i could take it to court but honestly its not even worth it

sorry for the rant...ebay is good for buying, not for selling.

edit to add-- his address was confirmed as well so i did everything by the book...they r supposed to offer seller protection but i dont even remember what their excuse was of why they wouldnt cover it bc i made sure i followed their protocol to a T!!!

Nikki I'm so sorry that happened to you and I agree with you: I no longer sell anything on ebay worth more than $200. Instead of selling my gold jewelry I scrapped it by going directly to a refiner and made the same money I would have on ebay anyways. And For sellers I trust, like a jewelry manufacturer I buy from in China, I will usually just do an ebay deposit and pay the rest by credit card on paypal so they avoid the fees.

Ebay has really gone donwhills. I now look to etsy and craigslist to pick up where ebay leaves off but they have a ways to go.

As for mydiamondzone however they are in Chicago and I even plan to meet them face to face the next time I'm in town.

Agreed. These are often very small little mom and pop business, sometimes just moms. I didn't empathize with sellers until I became one. They even suspended my selling on ebay WITHOUT WARNING because I exceeded 15 listings in the same category and am not a power seller. That's borderline antitrust!

EBAY SUCKS

i hear ya...your only allowed to list so many items in the same category and they have limits...designer brand names, 1 every 30 days!!! i went to sell some auth LV purses that i never used anymore (receipts and paperwork included) sold one,, got positive feedback went to list the next one and they took the listing down, said i had to wait 30 days...meanwhile a seller from china is selling 15 obvious plastic LV purses $100 each...and i watched them sell for weeks!!

oh i cant count the ways that website has irked me lately..

like i said before, good to buy bad to sell!

no biggie marley lots of ppl dont know the ins and outs of ebay..most ppl do transactions happily and barely ever have problems,,, but more and more ppl are getting confused bc they keep changing their policies and not telling anyone..

your comment about how paypal makes money by holding the money does ring tru..they do make money when they put convenient holds on large amounts of money, also they make money on their fees, and lastly the one that bothers me most is exchange rates...you have to transfer to your own currency before you can transfer the funds into your bank acct..

so someone pays me in usd i have to exchange it to canadian to transfer it into my bank acct..so they can set the exchange rate at whatever they want and i have to deal with it...

another reason why i dont sell there anymore LOL

sorry ive completely taken over this thread with my rants :S
