My Liz Rings - The Full Story

I have spent since about 3pm this afternoon reading this whole post. My goodness, what you have all gone through! I am just glad that most of the situations could be resolved, and it really does open my eyes to really knowing what I am getting myself into before I do anything at all on the custom route.

I don't plan on doing custom, but I have seen a lot of beautiful custom pieces out there, and a lot of lucky ladies that have received such amazing pieces. Its just a personal opinion, one that my fiance and I came to as a couple, and have decided with Tacori. I have always loved them, and he has been looking into them, and fell in love with one particular setting.

I know that this post is dead, but I was led here by another post, and after reading so many entries, I just had to write something.

i dont think there has been any problems with liz's work lately?
This thread was dead for a reason. I do not own any Liz rings, but there are a LOT of happy owners of Liz rings on the board... I suggest you do a search and check out some of the NEWER threads.

I recently made a 600 order with liz on just stones...now all my stones came just like I wanted them NOP color...one was a bit white
but I will say that I did make an order about a year ago...where I ordered 350 in stones and ordered them NOP and they all came WHITE WHITE--which I do not care for
She was not the nicest person to deal with on returns--I have mentioned this in a thread and to several members. Other than that..I have had no problem---but I do know exactly how a person feels that spends hundreds and the wait to get a stone/ring or whatever and it be half quality and the seller will not comply

I am sorry this has happened to so many--especially when the stuff is overpriced and a fortune--perhaps someone else will get a buisness up and going

Have you worked with Wink @ Winfields, he sells Interlaps, basically the same stones Liz sells.

I think you would be much happier working with him, he is awesome.

Give him a try!

but his prices are even higher than hers, and she offers cuts & colours that he doesn't (i've asked).

even with shipping?
Yes! Liz's shipping fee for loose stone orders is very reasonable, it's the finished jewelry pieces that cost ALOT to ship. The last time I ordered a couple stones from her my shipping charge was only $5 and there were no duties to pay. Some but not all of her Sparkling Lizzies are Interlaps. Liz's simulant cz stones come from various sources.

I've done my share of business w/Winfields through the years but there are certain cuts & colors I prefer to purchase from Liz.

I kind of read the first two pages and just wanted to give input of my own:

I contacted LizC for a piece I was interested in and found her prices cost about the same as the USA vendors I was considering. Out of my budget anyways.

So I found a chinese manufacturer who reproduces anything from a picture and had an art deco platinum halo ring made for under $700. I was the middleman, dealing with sometimes frustrating communication and service differences, but the mfg in china has a return policy, so there was no risk. I even was able to mail about 2k worth of diamonds back and forth and had no trouble. I am now doing the same for two of my friend's rings. We have saved thousands.

If you want something totally custom and don't have a picture of it, or require perfection, then I am sorry but I haven't even found many USA jewelers capable of this. But overseas is definitely a good idea if you have a photo and understand the communication differences. And they are more likely to start over again if they mess up than some pricey american jewelers in my experience.

Oh, and they have free fedex shipping.

Feydakin,

Then I suppose you have some troubling thoughts about 99% of the jewelry stores in the USA because they all order their stock made in China. The vast majority of 'designer' rings are made in China anyways, even those with 'American" labels, including the one whose design my ring is based on. If you don't know that, and you are making comments about my choices, perhaps you are buying in to a gimmick.

In fact, I initially went to a local jeweler and they were supposed to design a ring for me, but I saw they like most jewelery stores use dishonest practices for the main profit they make.

I have had plenty of local work done in the USA and ended up disappointed with the service I received, or they were unwilling to set my own stone. I don't rip off designs from artisans unless they refuse to use my stones (especially when my stones are insured).

I have no problem supporting Etsy and local artists, farms, businesses; but the jewelry industry is by and large an international one that's corrupted. That has been my experience.

Feydakin,

I also wanted to add the one reason I used to come to BTD was because I support diamond alternatives and any business going up against the bad apples in the industry are worthy of support.

I am sorry for those jewelry designers who pay the price of this industry; I considered getting in to it myself until I realized that it is too mean even for me.
