Diamonna vs MossaniteCo H&A vs Amora Gem (Soaring Hearts and Ultra) vs Forever One

#1
After spending almost a year trying to find a stone for my engagement ring I could be happy with, I thought I would share my experience and my opinions on each of the stones. I personally have seen all of the following:

Charles and Colvard Moissanite Classic
Charles and Colvard Forever One Moissanite
MoissaniteCo Hearts and Arrows Colorless Moissanite
Amora Gem Ultra
Amora Gem Soaring Hearts (not the Soaring Hearts Eternity)
Diamonna
G Color SI GIA Graded Diamond

For those who want to know which I think is the best diamond like stone out of all the simulants I've listed above, the short answer is the Diamonna. I'll explain why below. However, for those who want to know which I preferred the best, the answer is the Amora Gem Ultra. The explanation why is also below.

The Moissanite Classic and the MoissaniteCo Hearts and Arrows did not compare to the fire and brilliance of the Forever One, Amora Gem Ultra, or Diamonna. However, the H&A gem that MoissaniteCo sent me had terrible axle symmetry and was not close to a real H&A cut stone at all. I'm sure they could have better quality stone, but buying a stone from them is kinda like a luck of the draw. Unless you have the patience to keep returning them until you get a stone you like, you may end up with a poor cut stone.

The Amora Gem Soaring Hearts had issues all on it's own. The Soaring Hearts reflected light in pin fire flashes which caused the stone to "glitter" rather than "sparkle" in my opinion. When the stone was in normal indoor lighting, the stone had good light return but ultimately tended to look flat.

The Forever One, the Amora Gem Ultra, and the Diamonna were very comparable from a fire and brilliance standpoint. The difference between these three is ultimately cut.

The Forever One does not have a H&A cut pattern. The cut and flashes of light are more splintery looking, but to my eyes just as sparkly as the Amora Gem Ultra or the Diamonna. However, when you view this stone from the side, the shallow crown will differentiate this stone from a diamond.

The Amora Gem Ultra has very chunky arrows compared to a H&A cut diamond. However, these chunky arrows enabled larger flashes of light which gave me the impression that this gem was more sparkly than the others, but by a very narrow margin. Because I don't care about passing off my stone as a diamond and I really like having a Hearts and Arrows cut stone, I honestly like this stone the best. However, they don't sell these anymore.

The Diamonna does have a true Hearts and Arrows cut pattern. While these stone may not be cut to the accuracy and degree that the Amora gems are, the cut is pretty close to ideal. I have confirmed this through pictures of my gem through an idealscope and also through staring at the stone through a loupe. The size/thickness of the arrows in the Diamonna are much closer to that of a normal diamond. The flashes of light from the Diamonna are slightly smaller than the Amora Gem Ultra, but very frequent when you sparkle or twirl the stone. Everything here is why I personally think the Diamonna is the most comparable diamond like sim I've come across.

Hey, does the diomonna have a rainbow affect is the fire, like moisenite?
Thanks, Jon
Hi Jon, my Diamonna, which has now been re-branded the Diamelia to avoid some legal trouble, is a Moissanite. It is clear white without any green, yellow, or gray cast, but it does have a ton of fire and brilliance. I get rainbow flashes in various lighting situations.

Oh okay, thanks. I had thought the diamonnas were a plain crystal center with a bonded diamond exterior. Do you know of any diamond simulants that give similar fire to a diamond without any rainbow affect? We'll be passing this off as a real diamond...

In reality, no one is going to know it's not a diamond particularly if you stick to a size that is believable for your life situation. Strangers will never know but friends and family will likely be able to make an educated guess. For example, an AGS 000 or GIA XXX 2ct E-F colour diamond currently runs about $40,000 to $43,500 (setting not included, of course) so if your income can support this, it's unikely anyone would think it's anything other than a diamond.

So, in other words, the thing most likely to give away that a Diamonella, AG Eternity, etc. is not a diamond is not its sparkle, rather it is people's assumptions of what you can/cannot afford.

Thanks for your reply. I hear ya...And I agree...My income and other things we own would definitely support a 2ct genuine diamond ring...My girlfriend said she would rather have a 3k simulant ring and get a boat with the remaning money. I'm so torn though...In every other case, watches etc. I always shy away from replicas... I spent some time in a jewelry store the other day, comparing 2ct diamonds and 2ct Moissanite forever one stones... and the rainbow fire is very much apparent when next to a genuine diamond... I really don't want anyone to think I got the love of my life a replica...Mean while I'd be walking around with some pricey watches on. This is such a tough choice... I dont know what to do.

If it's any reassurance to you, I have Amora enhanced moissanite (different from the AG) and an AG ultra. My DIL decided on moissanite for her e-ring and purchased an Amora enhanced moissy as well. All of our rings have tested positive as diamonds on testers designed to pick out moissanite and no one has guessed that they are not diamonds. Not even jewellers! I've even received comments about what a great quality the stone is 'cause it sparkles so much.

I'm upfront about my jewellery because I love what I have but I could definitely "get away" with passing my rings as diamonds if I chose to do that. I really thing you have nothing to worry about.

I do want to add that you should definitely stick to moissanite in one of its forms because carbon coated CZ will not last - it will scratch and become cloudy over time and you will have to change out the stone perhaps as frequently as every couple of years depending on how hard your fiancee is on her rings. Doing this will eventually ruin the prongs on the ring. I have a pair of Asha earrings (Asha is diamond coated CZ such as you were mentioning) and they are clouding over because of creams/hair products. Of everything that I've seen, I really think you can't go wrong with the new AG Eternity. You could also consider the H&A cut F1 being offered by Moissaniteco.com - they are being cut to more closely resemble the sparkle of a diamond.

Okay, thanks Mmascall. What is your opinion on the diamelia?
I've never seen one in person but I believe they are significantly more expensive than either the AG Eternity or the Moissaniteco H&A F1.

BTD has really spent a lot of money on R&D to ensure a superior cut and performance and I've seen so many gorgeous H&A F1 rings from MoCo posted on Weddingbee (not to mention that I've ordered pretty much all of my moissanite jewellery from them and can vouch for the quality of their settings and customer service) so I'm not sure that the Diamelia is worth the extra money.

So I decided to get the diamelia, f1 h & a, and just tried to get the amora gem, but unfortunately they're sold out... I'm going to compare all three in person. Hopefully AG will be restocking soon! Thanks again for all of your help.

Great idea! Then you'll know for sure - also check out Fire & Brilliance videos on YouTube - they have many comparison videos (GIA graded diamond, F1 H&A, and the AG Eternity.) They don't compare the Diamelia because it is Gold & Gems proprietary product.
