Asha Overview - The basics...

My personal opinion. I would not waste money on Amora Moissanite KNOWING the Amora Gem is coming. I do not like moissanite. The stones are to warm. I've bought regular, original enhanced and the new Amora moissy. I didn't like any... all to warm and all had a weird green tint in the sun. I live in sunny california so I expected pure sparkle with no yellow or green in the sunlight. I was totally wrong!!!

I just ordered my beautiufl ring from BTD with a princess cut asha! I will be upgrading to the Princess cut Amora gem when it comes out. I'm all about asha. Beautiful stones. No yellow or any type or green color!! Everyone things my brothers fiance asha is a real diamond. We took her ring to the jewelers to look at some watches and they couldn't take there eyes off her E-ring. they all thought it was a real diamond. She passes it off as a diamond. I'm all about asha. There cuts are just like diamond. moissanite has way different cuts. Don't get me wrong Moissanite is pretty if you love warm very warm stones. They do sparkle but with weird color to them. Not diamond like at all.
The Asha and Moissanite each have their pros and cons. If having a colorless gem is a requirement above all else, then yes, Asha is the way to go. However I don't agree that Moissanite is not diamond like in appearance, cut, light play, etc. and I don't believe I am alone on this forum. Here is an excellent story from a recent customer:

I do not know how someone sees green in their moissanite in the sun. My unenhanced is very very white in the sun! The only time I see lots of warmth is in the car on overcast days (outside car it is steely white) where there is so little light and then it is a warm buttery colour which I love even more than when it is white! And mine is unenhanced so lower colour than an Amora H-J. It is also set in a yellow gold bezel so I am sure this enhances that in low lighting. It is an OEC and very "diamond like" in cut and colour compared to diamond OECs though I do not wear it to be a diamond.

Love my moissanite and have no interest in the Gem personally! It was hardly a waste of money.

As for fooling jewelers, KatNewby had a jeweler ask her how much she was selling her 9mm OEC Amora moissanite for the other day!

*warm* is subjective. I find H warm and haven't bought Amora because of it. But I would not say Amora moissanite is a waste since Amora Gem is coming (soonish). Some people like H and would buy an H coloured diamond... Some people like J,K or O,P for that matter.

I pass my UNENHANCED Moissy off as a diamond all the time. Maybe I was lucky but I almost never see any off color in mine. NEVER green and very very rarely do I pick up a little yellow. But it sparkles like mad all the time and I beat mine up! I have the Bella Halo from Moissco and everyone asks me if it is an heirloom diamond b/c the setting is so delicate. I will be the first on the Amora Gem bandwagon but I would never part with my Bella!

I also have the Bella wedding set. My enhanced stone is so so warm. I bought the Amora to see and to me it looked just like my original enhanced so that is why I returned it. I was pretty bumeed out. I do like the sparkle in the moissy don't get me wrong. But for some reason I see A LOT of color and so does my husband.

I love a colorless diamond so maybe thats why we are sensitive to it? I dunno. I didn't mean to bash on moissanite at all! They are pretty. I guess I am just picky on cut, color and clarity. Thats why I am so excited for the Amora GEM!! I can't wait to get my hands on that stone.

Yes, definitely if you prefer a colourless stone I can see why you may be more sensitive to colour even in an H or so. I am sensitive to colour but like to joke that I am sensitive to too little colour.

I hope the Amora Gem satisfies your expectations (I imagine it will!).

I have 2 moissys. One is just perfect and has passed the diamond test from appraisers using a loop. The other has an olive cast to in inside the house. It really looks like a dirty, bad color diamond. I assume they quality is not consistent.

Me either. Regardless of color the sparkle is BLINDING and the stone could be purple and it would be hard to see, lol.

'Warm' is subjective, that's why they do color grading. Is H described as warm on any diamond grading scale? In a case of white vs warm diamonds the H would still be in with the white. It's not a warm color. Sometimes I but more often J or K is when you start to get the 'warm' description in color grading even though *some* people are sensitive to the every so slight color in H colored stones.

DH sees fuchsia as pink because he can't see the purple/blue tones. DS says it is purple. Neither one of them are correct, it's still fuchsia!

I would describe H aswarm on a colour grading scale. But for the most part, I like to not see any colour in my stones. An antique cut would be an exception.

AGREE!

H is considered "near colorless" in diamonds. I am very color sensitive, but not in the way most are. H is as colorless as I can handle. Moissy to me is sheer perfection, even unenhanced!

i was considering the amora moissanite... did you at least think that this was a better stone than the unenhanced moissys? would you say it lived up to the 'h' color grading? thanks!

Forgive my ignorance - this may have been addressed already/elsewhere - will the asha's cloud or change colour over time? Or are they likely to last 'forever'?

I feel the same way. I do not want to bash Moissy either, because MANY people LOVE it. It's not for me. I definitely think the grading scale for Asha and Amora are different. An "I" Asha is much whiter/lighter than an "I" moissy IMO. The cushion moissys I saw were warm, maybe my eyes play tricks on me? They were definitely "warm." As in not white, ever. Call them "buttery" or "yellow" not ugly at all, just too warm for me.

Anyways, I never saw a round or OEC moissy.

nope, same grading scale. but remember, just like diamonds, the Asha and the Amora enhanced (and, in time, the Amora gem) are graded under specific and highly controlled lighting conditions, which are not necessarily the same lighting by which we are viewing our own personal jewelry.

Hello Dayna,

I am trying to figure out what my ideal setting would be for my engagement ring... I'm actually not quite engaged, but the BF requested my ring details
. I love what I see in your avatar and I was wondering if you have more pictures?

Thank you!
