A selling question

Hi everyone! I have a question for all of you. Especially those of you who have sold expensive items. Here is the scenario: I have a buyer who's interested in my 3ct eternity band. She'd like to have the sale contingent on getting the band checked out by her jeweler. Does that sound like a good idea? anyone have tips/advice on how to not get scammed, as in possibly having the stones switched?

Basically, I don't know her so I don't know if I'm comfortable doing it this way. I do have documentation that the diamonds are real. Also, my listing says so, but I don't expect people to completely trust me if they don't know me either.

Thanks!

I would be very, very specifc and maybe even get a signature via fax stating something to the effect of- "Sale is final unless diamonds can not be authenticated as genuine diamonds" I would'nt give the buyer any wiggle room to back out of the sale. I also wouldn't put what your paperwork says either as we all know grading is subjective. Her jeweler could say the stones are SI2, while yours said SI1 and then she could back out of the sale. If the issue is just the diamonds being real, keep just that the issue. Specifc exact terms and signatures would be the route I'd go. That would also show her you are serious and covering your bases making it less likely for her to try to run a scam on someone like you.

Thanks so much, Elf! I actually think she did try to run a scam! When I told her the ring was checked by my jeweler and with my loupe and diamond tester she was like thanks for your time! Now she is asking if I would consider them eyeclean!

These diamonds are I2 clarity but do sparkle! You know how much I love this band! I know they aren't super-clean but the sparkle is gorgeous! If she doesn't buy it I won't be upset, I may just keep it.

I would also consider sending it directly to the jeweler.. If she is a regular customer of theirs they will be happy to receive the ring for her..

As for "eye clean", that varies by the person and the quality of their eye sight.. So its a rather silly thing to ask in my opinion..

Thanks, Steve! That's exactly what I told the lady. I said we could easily prove the diamonds are real. But color, cut and clarity every jeweler has their own opinion on that. You're right it is a silly thing to ask.

For now, I ended up keeping it. I got that ring for 850. I will never see one like that for that price again. She did say if I ever decide to sell it to let her know. So I guess she was finally okay with my answers.
Thanks everyone!
